Andre Schwammlein (Schwammlein) and Daniel Krauss (Krauss), two schoolmates in Germany, went abroad for higher studies in the 1980s. After some time, Krauss returned to Munich, Germany, to work for Microsoft Corporation. Schwammlein too returned and worked as a strategy consultant in Germany and intermittently traveled the world with his friend Jochen Engert (Engert), a Ph.D. student at WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management, Germany, who had experience in organizing bus trips in Europe. During their visit to different countries, Schwammlein and Engert observed that while most European countries had had intercity buses (long distance coaches) for a long time, this kind of service was virtually non-existent in Germany..
